ACADEMIC CONTRACTS AND
GRANTS
The grants and contracts on the following list have been used
to support graduate assistants, equipment purchases, conference
travel and funded research during summer sessions. The creative
works that resulted from the following contracts were submitted
for peer-review in a variety of digital media conferences. A select
number of projects are available for download, please scroll to
the bottom of this page.
CONTRACTS
Spring, 2005, (Project lead) contract of $10,000 from the Environmental
Protection Agency to design, develop and program a CD ROM, and
to support previous productions developed for the Environmental
Protection Agency.
Spring, 2004, (Project lead) contract
of $20,000 from the Environmental Protection Agency to design,
develop and program a CD ROM entitled "From
Research to Remediation: Selenium, Arsenic and Lead," focusing
on the work of Dr Lawrence Twidwell, the world's leading authority
on mine waste. This production has been distributed to universities
with environmental engineering programs and submitted to the Broadcast
Education Association Faculty International Festival of Film, Video
and Media Arts Competition in 2005.

Spring, 2003, (Project lead) contract of $20,000 from the Environmental
Protection Agency to develop and program a software application
for non-programmers to facilitate the production of conference-related
CD ROM titles. Since completion, this software application has
been used to create three conference CD-ROM disks.
Spring, 2002, (Project lead) contract
of $20,000 from the University of Montana technical Institute
CD ROM in conjunction with the Environmental Protection This
disk, "Activities In-Depth" is a compilation
of the annual reports and research demonstration projects.

Fall, 2001, (Project lead) contract
of $20,000 from the University of Montana technical Institute
to develop a CD ROM in conjunction with the Environmental Protection
Agency to outline the Superfund cleanup process and to outline
technologies from the Hazardous Substances Research Centers.

GRANTS
Summer, 2008 (Principal Investigator) $750,000 phase II SBIR grant. My role is technical PI (instructional designer and lead software programmer) with a dedicated budget of $212,000. The goal of this research is to create object-oriented instructional modules to train Social Services specialists to work with patients suffering from dementia. Funding has been awarded as of June 2008.
Spring 2001, (Technical developer)
participated in a $10,000 grant from the Boston University Instructional
Technology Grant Program to develop "The Woburn Story," (see " A Civil Action") a
CD ROM that documents the history of the environmental disaster
that culminated during the 1970's in Woburn, Massachusetts.
Spring 2001, (Instructional designer, programmer) Participated
in a $150,000 grant with The Institutes for Learning and Development
and Research ILD, under a grant from the U.S. Department of Education
(Grant # ED-99-CO-0125 and DOE Star Schools Grant # R203A70004)
as a production team member working with a company named Fable
Vision, located in Watertown, MA.. My role was to develop the software
for a product named Brain Cogs: The personal interactive coach
for learning and studying. (Note this product has won numerous
awards, as noted in a previous section)
Fall, 2000, (Course Developer) grant
of $6,000 from the Sloan Foundation to develop "Multimedia Instructional Design" an
interactive online course for the University of Massachusetts,
Lowell.
Fall, 2000, (Principal Investigator)
$55,000 grant with the National Center for Missing and Exploited
Children, to design, develop and program interactive educational
modules for a DVD and web site entitled "Cyber Safety." A link to the games is currently
shipped with all new HP home computer systems, also viewable on
the "Net Smartz" website at (http://www.netsmartz.org/resources/nsresources.htm).
The suite includes game engines for web and CD ROM 'workshop" activities
(Make-a Match, Comic Book, Coloring Book, Picture Puzzle, Where's
Clicky? Webville Roundup, Clicky Creation and Cyber Safety
Spring, 2000, (Principal Investigator),
$11,500 grant from the Boston University Instructional Technology
Grant Program to develop a "Digital Video and Archive System" (Streaming
Video research) website with an OSX server and related technologies.
GRANTS PROPOSED, UNDER REVIEW
Summer, 2008, Project Management International. $25,000 grant application has been submitted and is under review. This grant has been submitted with Dr. Anchalee Ngampornchai to study intercultural dymanics within project teams and the challenges that project managers face as a result of those dynamics.
GRANTS PROPOSED, NOT AWARDED
Summer, 2004, Northrop Grumman Foundation,
$60,000. This grant proposed to fund two interactive Kiosks to
be installed at the Tallahassee Challenger Center.
Spring, 2003, Environmental Protection Agency, $30,000. This grant
proposed to develop an educational CD ROM specifically outlining
the hazards of mine waste in three different settings; rural, suburban
and urban (Brown fields).
Fall 2002, Fort Peck Indian Reservation $85,000. This grant proposed
to design and develop a CD ROM to disseminate information about
environmental hazards surrounding abandoned mining sites.
FUNDED PROJECTS
Environmental Protection
Agency / mine-waste technology promotional CD ROM.
This is a disk that
is intended to inform the public about mine waste technologies
and the benefit that is gained by supporting these activities. Download

Game Files
This archive includes
a number of games; blackjack, iSpy, a picture puzzle game and
Lexicon. The game engines have been repurposed for many different
productions, including National Center for Exploited and Missing

Montana
Technical University Demo
This is a demo I created
for Montana Tech. Features a panorama campus tour, a design based
on the based on the 'Star Trek' CD ROM. Download

Understanding
Community Health Problems
This is the so-called
'Woburn CD ROM,' the disk I created to highlight the impact of
severe environmental consequences of pollution. Download

From
research to remediation: Arsenic, Thallium ,Selenium
The majority of my
works are 'technology transfer' CD ROMs for the Environmental
Protection Agency. This disk focuses on three dangerous compounds
that are commonly found in areas surrounding mines. Download
